Brisbane Connect & Learn

The Brisbane Connect & Learn event will be held live in-person at Novotel Brisbane South Bank on Friday 29 August 2025 from 3pm-5:30pm.

Centred around the theme ‘Hearing Aids: Understanding the Tech Behind the Fit’, this 2.5-hour event will explore how hearing aid technology can be better tailored to the individual auditory system.

With a focus on real-world application, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how to make fitting decisions that lead to more effective, personalised outcomes.

Each event includes a relaxed afternoon tea, offering time to connect with fellow attendees and chat with exhibitors.

Clinical Application of NAL-NL3

Join two leading clinical audiologists from the NAL-NL3 team as they take you beyond NAL-NL2 and into the next generation of evidence-based hearing aid prescription.

This presentation takes you through real-world fitting scenarios, case studies using NAL-NL2 and NAL-NL3 side by side, and research outcomes to demonstrate how NAL-NL3 delivers better outcomes, fewer adjustments, and greater fitting efficiency in everyday clinical practice.

This session includes practical guidance on fitting with NAL-NL3 and applying the new Comfort in Noise and Minimum Hearing Loss Modules, plus strategies for clinical decision-making. Join us to learn how NAL-NL3 will transform your fittings - confidently, efficiently, and with better outcomes.

1615 - 1655Listening Through the Noise: Understanding and Optimising Noise Reduction

An in-depth look at the evolution and workings of modern noise reduction systems in hearing aids. This session will unpack the technical mechanics behind noise suppression features, how the various noise reduction components differ, and how these processes are actually experienced by users. By bridging the technical and perceptual, clinicians will leave with a deeper understanding of how to interpret user feedback, fine-tune fittings, and set realistic expectations.
  • Stationary vs fluctuating noise and how they’re processed
  • Spectral subtraction, impulse noise management, wind suppression, and directional mic systems
  • Latency, artifacts, and trade-offs in noise reduction
  • Common user complaints related to noise processing and what they really mean in technical terms

1655 - 1730We can fit hearing aids to people with normal hearing thresholds – but should we?

This presentation reviews emerging evidence on fitting hearing aids for people who struggle to listen despite having normal hearing thresholds. It explores pros such as better speech-in-noise performance and cons such as inconsistent results and risk of overtreatment.
