Workshop 1: How can audiologists use Cognitive Behaviour Therapy in everyday practice?
Cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT) has become established as the leading evidence-based intervention for treating a wide range of psychological disorders and for helping clients to manage an even wider range of physical health conditions.

The session will begin with a refresher of the key elements of personal adjustment counselling, that form the basis of every day audiological practice. It will outline the key principles, and basic interventions associated with CBT, with a focus on some techniques that are specifically relevant in audiology. The interactive workshop component will provide opportunities for participants to apply this knowledge and practice skills in relation to real-life clinical situations, using clinical scenarios and role plays.

Finally, the session will look at how to work with tricky situations and how CBT can assist audiologists to apply   the concept of self-compassion to look after themselves and their own wellbeing.

Many clients have embraced the hearing journey and worked constructively with you to optimize their communication skills. They are effective users of hearing devices with excellent skills in all areas of aural rehabilitation.

However, there comes a time along the journey when these technologies and skills are no longer sufficient, a time where you need to guide clients towards standard of care based on their hearing loss.

This session will review the client journey from hearing devices through supplementary technologies, to cochlear implants where appropriate.

The workshop is designed specifically for audiologists who want to develop confidence in knowing when and who to refer, as well as developing confidence when having conversations with clients about cochlear implants, through case studies and case discussions. The workshops will feature subject matter expert speakers from various disciplines in the hearing community. The format for this interactive workshop will include panel discussions, reviewing and discussing real case studies, small group practical exercises and role plays. There will be opportunities for all participants to apply their knowledge and refine their skills. The workshop is most suitable for professionals looking to develop new competencies and practical skills when assessing and counselling clients as well as staying up to date with the latest trends and research pertaining to acquired adult hearing loss.
