Beyond the Paediatric Audiogram

This session will focus on a child’s hearing journey, from the time of initial presentation at a paediatric audiology facility. It will cover the National Consensus Guidelines for Investigating Hearing Loss and how this is being achieved through Barwon Early Assessment of Hearing Loss and similar services provided locally through the Tasmanian Paediatric Hearing Loss multi-disciplinary clinic.  It will detail the role of the audiologist within a multi-disciplinary team, how to identify red flags in children at risk of developmental delay and, as early childhood professionals, the importance of early identification/onward referral for children with developmental concerns.  It will outline relevant  best practice principles within the National Guidelines for Early Intervention and how we may use this as a framework when approaching our diagnostic assessment, as well as highlighting some key considerations “beyond the paediatric audiogram” that may help to achieve a more successful outcome.   The session will include a range of speakers who each consider a different element of the journey, using real world examples and will be streamed in live from Victoria.

1330 - 1500Increasing Clinical Awareness

This workshop will focus on diagnostic indicators and “red flags”.  It will provide an opportunity for audiologists to refine their case history taking, clinical decision making, referral processes and documentation. The aim is to refine and refresh your diagnostic lens, to ensure you provide a comprehensive audiological service to all clients before they commence their rehabilitation journey. It will begin with a review by an ENT Consultant on what they look for in audiological reports and how to facilitate good information exchange. A diverse range of case studies including both adults and children, will be used to guide the discussion.
